Group surf trips in Portugal

From six mates to company offsites, we handle the logistics so the group just shows up

Group surf trips work brilliantly in Portugal because the camp scene is already built around groups: shared meals, shared sessions, shared evenings. The trick is matching the group to the right camp size, room mix, and ability spread. We coordinate room blocks, lesson ratios, transfers, and (for larger groups) camp buy-outs where operators allow it.

  • Camp buy-outs available for 14+ person groups at many operators
  • Room blocks for smaller groups, with mixed dorm/private setups
  • Transfers and lesson logistics coordinated by the camp
  • Strong fit for company offsites and bachelor/bachelorette weeks (non-stag)
  • Year-round, with peak summer booking up fastest

Group sizes and what they unlock

Small groups (4 to 8): you slot into a camp’s regular week, with a room block (some private, some shared) and dedicated lesson groups within the broader camp. The benefit is meeting other travellers; the trade-off is some shared spaces.

Medium groups (9 to 14): same as above but with stronger options for dedicated meal seating and a near-exclusive lesson group. Some smaller camps will run a near-private week at this size.

Large groups (15+): camp buy-outs become possible at many operators. You get the whole house, your own coaches, your own schedule, often custom meal arrangements. This is also the right size for company offsites.

The best regions for groups

Peniche has the highest density of group-friendly camps with a wide room mix and proven group logistics. It’s usually our first recommendation for mixed-ability groups of 6 to 16.

Ericeira works well for groups that want town life as part of the trip: walking-distance bars, restaurants, plenty of room types. The central Algarve is the right call for sun-first groups and most company offsites (Faro airport is the easiest hub for international flights). The western Algarve suits groups that want a retreat-style buy-out in a beautiful setting.

Mixed ability in a single group

Almost every group has a mix of surf experience. Good camps split into ability groups for the surf sessions (beginner, intermediate, optional advanced) and reunite for meals and evenings. This works much better than forcing everyone into the same wave level. The bigger the group, the easier it is to support proper ability splits with dedicated coaches per group.

Logistics we coordinate

For all group sizes, we coordinate room mix (mix of private and shared, single-sex rooming if requested), arrival and departure transfers, lesson group splits by ability, meal timing for the group, special dietary needs, and (where relevant) evening activities or a buy-out of the camp common areas.

For corporate or larger groups, we additionally handle invoicing options, room name lists, AV setup for any workshop time, and contractual details with the operator.

How we match you

Tell us the group size, the date range (especially flexibility), the rough ability mix, and any specific preferences (company offsite, friends’ trip, bachelorette, birthday week). We respond within 24 hours with two or three camps that can host you well, with honest notes on what each would mean for your group.

Common questions

How early should we book a group?
For peak summer (July to August), 6 to 9 months ahead is the safest. For shoulder seasons (May, June, September, October), 3 to 6 months is usually fine. Large groups (15+) seeking a buy-out should plan 6+ months ahead regardless of season.
Can we mix surfers and non-surfers in the group?
Yes, easily. Most camps welcome non-surfing members, who can join transfers, meals, and evening activities. Some non-surfing members eventually take a lesson; some just hang out at the beach.
Do you handle company offsites?
Yes. We regularly plan company surf offsites, including AV setup for workshop time, invoicing arrangements, dietary tracking, and ability-split coaching. Tell us the company context and goals when you submit.
Can we buy out a whole camp?
Often yes, depending on the operator and the camp size. Most operators consider buy-outs from 14 to 20 guests. We negotiate the rates and the inclusions on your behalf.
What does a group week cost?
Per-person rates usually drop a little for larger groups, but the total varies widely by camp and inclusions. As a rough band, expect €600 to €1,400 per person for a week including accommodation, surf, and most meals.
